Lent: Day Twenty Two

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. -Joshua 1:9

During the first years of having children, there were definitely some financially challenging times. Remembering back to our wedding vows when Jada and I said our vows “for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer” those words would take on a whole new meaning. I remember hearing in one of my college classes the term ‘DINK’ meaning Dual Income No Kids. Well, I would add the term ‘STINK’ once you have kids, meaning Same Two Incomes Needy Kids. Looking back though, God always provided. At times it meant the two of us working four jobs from babysitting a toddler to delivering newspapers at 2AM. Once, not knowing how we were going to come up with $106.99 for an unexpected bill, God’s sovereignty was on display. Within days of receiving that bill, we received an anonymous gift of $100 cash in the mail and a long overdue rebate check we had forgotten about for $6.99. I think God has a pretty good sense of humor.

Fast forward a few years, we took a leap of faith to uproot our family from Stillwater, Minnesota to what we hoped would be a more rural setting. Not knowing where we would move to or where I would work, we put our house up for sale. Again, in God’s perfect timing, He brought along the right buyer and a great job in Albert Lea, Minnesota; it was a seamless transition. Another prayer request of ours was to find a good church to be a part of and to grow in our walk with the Lord. Let’s just say we found an amazing church at FBC in Forest City and God is so good!

Just as God promised Joshua He would be with him, we have experienced God’s presence and faithfulness firsthand in our lives. Thinking back to our wedding day about 19 years ago, we are reminded God is our anchor and foundation, our hope and salvation. Therefore, we can count on God’s faithfulness today by looking back at our yesterdays and seeing how God has always provided and the promise he will never leave us.

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” -Matthew 6:33

In what ways have you experienced God’s faithfulness in your life so far and what is one thing you are trusting in Him for your future?
