Bring it Home
Matthew 5:3-12
Take some time and read through the “Be Attitudes.” Try writing them out and reflecting on each of the verses.
After spending some time “marinating” in the passage, which of these Be Attitudes sticks out to you? Is there a particular area where God is pressing you? Is there something God is trying to communicate with you through this passage?
Think about the opening phrase “poor in spirit.” Does this describe you? Are you spiritually bankrupt? Honestly think about that question. Our culture here in North Central Iowa prizes strength, hard work and determination. When transferred to our relationship to God, these qualities can stand in the way of our being blessed. How can you, your family, and our church grow in being “poor in spirit?”
Discontentment is everywhere. So many people are dissatisfied with life. Whether it’s job, marriage, parents, school...you name it. What about you? Would say that you are a “satisfied” person? This passage tells us that we are satisfied when we hunger and thirst for righteousness. What are you hungry for? What are you thirsty for? Be honest.
Pray through the “Be Attitudes.” Pray them for your family. Pray them for the church.
