Bring it Home

Matthew 5:13-16

What are the different ways you use salt? What is it good for? What does Jesus mean when he says that his followers are the salt of the earth?

How can you make an impact in the world? Think about that question for a bit. If you are the salt of the earth, then you are supposed to make a difference somewhere. How? How can you, your family, your small group...how can you make an impact in this world for the sake of Jesus?

Think about light for a moment. What does it do? Make a list of all the ways light is used. Now think of that list through the lens of this passage. How can you function like that in this world?

What are some ways that people cover up the light? Is there some way that you are covering up God’s work of grace in your life? Is there something that you are hiding from the people around you? Is there a piece of your life that you don’t share with your co-workers? Is there something that you are keeping from your neighbors?

Matthew 5:16 tells us that when people see our good works they will praise God. Is that true of you? When people see you in action or hear you talk do they praise God? Or do they praise you?
