But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. - John 14: 26-27
In 2018, my wife Hope and I were going through some really hard times. Sparing some details, I would say that I was being deceived by Satan and was convinced that what I was doing was not really a sin, and that God was ok with it. It was through the faithful prayers of many that God’s light appeared bright through the darkness and caused me to repent.
During these dark times the Holy Spirit would bring scripture to mind that I had memorized earlier in my Christian walk. John 14: 27 was one of the verses that came to me when I was really troubled and in despair. I remember it was so comforting to me and was the perfect verse at the perfect time. How awesome is our God! He was walking beside me all time and never left my side.
Hope and I were reflecting on all that had happened and how God so graciously helped us through those difficult times. We decided that in 2019 one of our goals would be to memorize scripture. As we were thinking about a good verse to start with, the above verse showed up in our devotions. This Easter as we remember Christ’s crucifixion, and how he suffered and died for our sins, and His resurrection and the promise that we too as believers will rise again; let’s not forget that Jesus didn’t leave us alone when he ascended into heaven. He gave us the wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit to help us in our daily walk. He is ever present with us and will guide and direct our thoughts and actions if we listen and intentionally seek him.
Prayer: Father, thank you for your word. May we be diligent to study, meditate, and memorize it so we can use it to guide and direct our path. Thank you for giving us the gift of the Holy Spirit, the helper who is ever present with every believer. Help us to rely on you to live in a way that is pleasing to you. May we listen and respond to the voice of the Holy Spirit so we may reflect you to others.
