God is in Control

Joy

Written by Lydia Thompson

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness."

- James 1:2-3

According to the dictionary,  joy is a noun defined as a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. Joy is often associated with happiness. If good things are happening, then I am happy; if bad things are happening, then I am sad. For much of my life, I allowed circumstances to dictate my joy.

It wasn’t until recently that I began to understand that true joy comes from knowing and trusting God. It is believing that He is good, that He loves you, and that He is in control no matter what happens. I cannot control the things around me, but I can control my reactions. I trust that, no matter what, God is in control.

Galatians 5 tells us that joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit. As we grow closer to the Lord and belong to Him, we allow the Holy Spirit to lead us.

Reflect on Luke 2:10-11: "But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.'"

My encouragement for you this season is to know the great joy that only He can give and remember that Jesus is our greatest JOY.

PRAYER: Abba Father, we invite You into our lives this season. Lord, help us to remember Your biblical truths and to keep our hearts focused on You.
